Crazy if true.

Mmm. Love me a ZJ (minus the weak Chrysler trannies and Dana 35C rear ends).

SRT8=/=5.7, and I sorta doubt anyone went to the colossal pain of swapping a gen 3 Hemi into an $800 ZJ. Fun with double sided tape.

I had a red 96, pretty much as pictured in 96 (ok it was the parents’) I quite liked it. fuel economy aside

considering you can buy a WK with a hemi for a few grand these days, probably not. however, if it’s already got a 318 in it, a 360 from a Ram is a bolt-in swap and, given the relatively low weight of a ZJ, would make it a rocket.

The 5.9 Limited is no slouch! There’s a forlorn one sitting unmoved in a driveway near my house that constantly tempts me. It says “go on, knock on the door and make an offer. There’s probably nothing major wrong with me, and you need a 6th car anyway. I definitely won’t make your wife murder you in your sleep or relentlessly drain your wallet. Plus, once you’re done dumping thousands of dollars into me you can sell me for at least $1,500!"

The 46RH and 44RE transmissions found in the V8 ZJs were pretty stout. I drag around a 24' travel trailer behind my V8 WJ (545RFE, but still very related to the earlier units) and its still happy as a clam at 154k miles. The 42RE behind the 4.0 is another story. The real unicorns to watch for are the ‘93s that were fortunate enough to receive either an AW4 or an AX15!

Also, I wheeled for years with a D35 in my XJ and only managed to kill it when the stupid rubber plug came out in a mud hole and I didn’t notice until 150 freeway miles later. They aren’t *that* fragile.

I tend to run across great deals on 5.9 limiteds when i don’t have the funds available. I went looking for one a couple years ago, couldn’t find any, and bought a 97 TSi 5.2 instead. One popped up on craigslist the next week.
